frequently asked questions

Is therapy a good option for me?

If you are struggling, ready to make some changes, and/or simply need a nonjudgmental space to talk things out, then the answer is Yes. Dr. Kanchi strongly believes that therapy can be a game changer and a key vehicle for transforming life challenges into opportunities for healing, personal growth, and happiness. It does take courage, vulnerability, and engagement to get the most out of therapy. Keep in mind that therapy is voluntary and you will be able to make choices along this journey. If you are uncertain at this time, take advantage of the free phone consultation with Dr. Kanchi to see if this is the right step for you.

Are the Sessions Covered by my Insurance?

Dr. Kanchi is considered an “out-of-network” provider, which means that you are responsible for paying the full fee upfront for each session. Dr. Kanchi can provide you with an invoice, referred to as a “superbill” on a weekly or monthly basis (per your request), which you can then submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Insurance providers typically reimburse 50-80% of session costs. However, insurance plan coverage varies widely, so please check with your provider via phone or online for specific coverage and rates of reimbursement.

To find out more about your network coverage, you can call your insurance provider at the number listed on the back of your insurance card. Consider asking the following:

  • What percentage of my bill will be covered for services obtained by an out-of-network provider?

  • How many sessions are covered per calendar year?

  • Is there a deductible for an out-of-network provider; if so, how much is it?

  • If they need the CPT/procedure codes, provide the following: 90791 for a 60 min intake evaluation (the first session), and 90834 for the 45 minute individual psychotherapy sessions.

Once you have obtained this information, loop back to Dr. Kanchi and she will help identify the right course of action for you.

How often will I meet with Dr. Kanchi? How long will my treatment be?

Dr. Kanchi will collaborate with you to determine the length of treatment that is clinically appropriate. The frequency of visits and the length of treatment can vary for each client as it depends on the specific needs of the clients and the pace of progress made in treatment. Most clients typically meet once a week; however, Dr. Kanchi may recommend to increase or decrease the frequency based on your unique needs. While brief treatment may be as short as four to five sessions, longer term therapy could last months to even several years.

Are you able to prescribe medication?

Dr. Kanchi is a psychologist, thus she does not prescribe medication. However, she will provide referrals and help you get connected with excellent psychiatrists (who are the ones that do prescribe). She often collaborates with psychiatrists in the community to coordinate care for her clients.

What if I need to cancel my appointment?

Please provide Dr. Kanchi with at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or change your appointment. You will be charged your full session fee if you do not cancel at least 24 hours in advance of your appointment time (also please keep in mind that insurance companies may not provide reimbursement for it).   Dr. Kanchi understands that things come up unexpectedly, so keep that line of communication open and she will help figure out a feasible action plan with you.
